Anti-apoptotic refers to substances or processes that prevent or slow down programmed cell death, known as apoptosis. Cells naturally undergo apoptosis for growth, development, and maintaining healthy tissues. Anti-apoptotic factors help cells survive by blocking signals that would otherwise trigger their death. This balance is vital; if anti-apoptotic mechanisms are too strong, they can allow harmful or abnormal cells to persist, potentially leading to diseases like cancer.
