Anterior temporal lobectomy

An anterior temporal lobectomy is a surgical procedure where a portion of the front and side part of the brain's temporal lobe is removed. It's primarily used to treat epilepsy that originates from this area, especially when seizures are resistant to medication. By removing the abnormal brain tissue causing seizures, the operation can reduce or eliminate seizures for many patients. The procedure is carefully planned with imaging to minimize risks, and most patients recover well, often experiencing significant improvement in their quality of life.
