Anterior Interbody Fusion
Anterior interbody fusion is a surgical procedure to stabilize the spine by removing a damaged disc from the front (anterior) side and replacing it with a bone graft or implant. This encourages the two nearby vertebrae to fuse together over time, providing stability, relieving pain, and restoring proper alignment. The surgery is performed through an incision in the abdomen, allowing direct access to the spine without moving the spinal cord. It is commonly used to treat conditions like degenerative disc disease or herniated discs that cause chronic back or neck pain.
