Annibal (or Hannibal) was a renowned Carthaginian military commander best known for crossing the Alps with his army, including war elephants, to challenge Rome during the Second Punic War (218–201 BC). His strategic brilliance and bold tactics made him one of history’s greatest generals, forcing Rome to adapt its defenses. Despite his military successes, Carthage eventually lost the war, leading to Rome’s dominance in the Mediterranean.
