Anne Jump Cannon
Annie Jump Cannon was an influential astronomer known for classifying stars based on their spectra. Using a tool called a spectroscope, she analyzed light from stars to determine their chemical composition and temperature. Her work led to the development of the Harvard Classification Scheme, a system that organizes stars into types (like O, B, A, F, G, K, M) based on their spectral characteristics. Cannon's efforts greatly advanced our understanding of stars and their properties, and she played a key role in establishing modern stellar classification methods.
