Ankle Replacement Surgery

Ankle replacement surgery, also called total ankle arthroplasty, involves replacing a damaged or arthritic ankle joint with artificial components. The goal is to relieve pain, restore joint function, and improve mobility. During the procedure, the worn surfaces of the tibia (shinbone) and talus (foot bone) are removed and replaced with metal and plastic parts that mimic natural joint movement. The surgery is typically considered for patients with severe ankle arthritis who haven't responded to conservative treatments. Recovery involves a period of immobilization and physical therapy to regain strength and function in the ankle.
