Animal Magnetism

Animal Magnetism, also known as mesmerism, is a concept from the 18th and 19th centuries suggesting that a universal magnetic fluid flows through living beings, influencing health and behavior. Louis XVI’s physician, Franz Mesmer, proposed that this invisible force could be manipulated to promote healing and alleviate ailments through focused attention or "animal magnetism." Although modern science discredits the existence of a literal magnetic fluid, the term laid groundwork for understanding hypnosis and suggestion, highlighting the mind-body connection. Today, it is understood as a historical concept that contributed to the development of psychological therapy techniques.
