Anglo-Persian Oil Company
The Anglo-Persian Oil Company, founded in 1908, was a British enterprise that discovered and developed oil resources in Persia (modern Iran). It was the first company to extract and export Persian oil, significantly impacting global energy markets. In 1935, it was renamed the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, and later, in 1954, it became British Petroleum (BP). The company's operations played a crucial role in shaping Iran's economy and international relations, often marked by disputes over oil rights and control. It contributed to the development of the global petroleum industry and laid groundwork for modern multinational oil companies.
