Anglo-Iranian Oil Company
The Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, established in 1908, was a British multinational corporation that controlled Iran's oil resources. It was formed after the discovery of vast oil fields in Iran and became a major player in the global oil industry. The company was known for its significant influence over Iran's economy and politics, leading to national tensions. In 1951, Iran nationalized its oil industry, prompting the UK to block Iranian oil exports. This conflict contributed to the 1953 coup that overthrew Iran's government and reestablished control of oil resources under Western influence. The company later became BP (British Petroleum).
