Anglo-Boer War

The Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902) was a conflict between the British Empire and the Boer republics (the South African Republic and Orange Free State) over control of territory in South Africa. The Boers, descendants of Dutch settlers, wanted to maintain their independence, while Britain aimed to consolidate its influence in the region. The war featured guerrilla fighting, harsh concentration camps, and significant destruction. Ultimately, the British forces won, leading to the Union of South Africa in 1910, but the conflict left lasting tensions and shaped the country’s colonial history.
