Angelus (prayer)

The Angelus is a traditional Catholic prayer commemorating the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary she would conceive Jesus. It is typically recited three times daily—morning, noon, and evening—throughout the year. The prayer involves a series of short lines reflecting on the biblical story, accompanied by the ringing of church bells or prompts to pause. Its purpose is to honor Mary’s obedience and to remind the faithful of the mystery of the Incarnation.
