Anfinsen Experiment

Anfinsen’s experiment demonstrated that the three-dimensional structure of a protein is determined by its amino acid sequence. He denatured a protein called ribonuclease by unfolding it with chemicals, which made it lose its functional shape. When the chemicals were removed, the protein spontaneously refolded into its original, functional form. This showed that all the information necessary for a protein to fold correctly is contained within its amino acid sequence itself, and that the natural folding process happens automatically without external guidance.
