Aneuploidy
Aneuploidy is a condition where a person has an abnormal number of chromosomes, which are the structures in our cells that carry genetic information. Normally, humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, totaling 46. In aneuploidy, extra or missing chromosomes can disrupt normal development and function. This can occur due to errors during cell division, leading to conditions like Down syndrome, where there is an extra copy of chromosome 21. Aneuploidy can affect physical features, health, and development, and its effects vary depending on which chromosomes are altered.
