Andropov
Yuri Andropov was a Soviet politician who served as General Secretary of the Communist Party from 1982 until his death in 1984. He had previously led the KGB, the Soviet Union's secret police and intelligence agency. During his brief leadership, Andropov focused on combating corruption, improving the economy, and moderating the arms race with the West. Although his time in power was short, he is often credited with initiating reforms that later influenced Mikhail Gorbachev’s policies. Andropov's tenure was marked by a mixture of hardline policies and a recognition of the need for change in the Soviet system.
