Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT)
Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is a treatment for prostate cancer that reduces the levels of male hormones, called androgens (like testosterone), which often fuel the growth of prostate cancer cells. By lowering these hormone levels through medications or surgery, ADT can slow or shrink the cancer. It is commonly used for advanced or recurrent prostate cancer and may be combined with other treatments. While effective, ADT can cause side effects such as hot flashes, fatigue, and decreased bone density, so its use is carefully managed by healthcare providers.
