Andrew Volstead

Andrew Volstead was an American politician best known for authoring the Volstead Act of 1919, which provided the legal framework to enforce Prohibition in the United States. This law made it illegal to manufacture, sell, or transportation alcoholic beverages, aiming to reduce alcohol consumption. The act defined what constituted an alcoholic drink and established penalties for violations. Although Prohibition was widely supported by some groups, it also led to illegal activities like bootlegging. The Volstead Act was repealed in 1933, ending nationwide Prohibition.
