Andrew Myrick
Andrew Myrick was a 19th-century fur trader and government agent involved in the U.S.-Dakota (Sioux) conflicts. During the Dakota War of 1862, he famously told starving Dakota people to “Eat grass” when they pleaded for food, reflecting his disregard and reputation for harshness. He was later killed by Dakota warriors in what became known as the Dakota Massacre. His death symbolized the violent tensions and miscommunications between the U.S. government and Native tribes during this turbulent period.
