Andrea Gabrieli

Andrea Gabrieli (c. 1533–1585) was an influential Italian composer and organist of the Renaissance period. Renowned for his innovative choral and instrumental music, particularly his sacred compositions, he contributed significantly to the development of polyphony—music with multiple independent melodies sung or played simultaneously. Gabrieli worked at the Catholic Church in Venice and helped shape the music of the Venetian School, inspiring future composers like Monteverdi. His use of spatial effects in architecture and sound, as well as his mastery of instrumental and vocal music, made him a key figure in early Western music history.
