Ancillary Probate

Ancillary probate is a legal process used to administer a deceased person's assets located outside the primary state of their residence. When someone owns property in different states—like a vacation home or bank account—this process ensures those assets are properly transferred to heirs. Essentially, it's a secondary probate conducted in the state where the property is located, following the main probate in the home state. This procedure helps clear title to the assets and ensures their proper distribution according to the deceased’s wishes or state laws.
