Ancient Puebloans

The Ancient Puebloans, also known as Ancestral Puebloans, were indigenous people who inhabited the southwestern United States, primarily in present-day Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. They thrived from around 200 CE to 1300 CE, building elaborate stone and adobe villages called pueblos, including famous sites like Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde. They developed advanced agriculture, especially maize cultivation, and created intricate pottery, jewelry, and rock art. Their society was organized into clans and they built impressive multi-story structures for residence and ceremonial purposes. The Ancient Puebloans are ancestors of several modern Pueblo peoples.
