Ancient Maya Writing
Ancient Maya writing is a complex system of hieroglyphs combining logograms and phonetic symbols used to record history, religion, and daily life. It was primarily inscribed on monuments, ceramics, and codices made from bark paper. Maya scribes used these glyphs to convey both sounds and meanings, allowing them to document royalty, historical events, and mythology. Their writing reached a high level of sophistication around 300-900 AD, reflecting their advanced civilization. Although many texts were lost, decipherments over the past century have revealed much about Maya culture, governance, and beliefs.
