Anchorites
Anchorites were individuals in medieval times who chose to live a secluded, often solitary life dedicated to religious devotion. Typically, they would be enclosed in small spaces called anchorholds—a cell or small room attached to a church—where they spent their days in prayer, meditation, and reflection. This self-imposed isolation aimed to foster a deeper spiritual connection and serve as a living example of faith. While physically separated from the community, anchorites often continued to offer spiritual guidance and pray for others, acting as spiritual anchors for their communities.
