ANC's Umkhonto we Sizwe
Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation), or MK, was the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa, founded in 1961. Its purpose was to challenge the apartheid regime through acts of sabotage against government infrastructure and military targets, aiming to resist racial segregation and discrimination. While non-violent protests were often favored, MK believed armed resistance was necessary to fight the oppressive system. Over time, MK played a significant role in the fight for racial equality and contributed to the end of apartheid, transitioning into a political organization after South Africa's democratic transition in 1994.
