anatomy of the intestine

The intestine is a long, tube-like organ that absorbs nutrients from food. It has two main parts: the small intestine, which is about 20 feet long and where most digestion and nutrient absorption occurs, and the large intestine, about 5 feet long, which absorbs water and forms waste. The small intestine is made up of three sections: the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. The large intestine includes the cecum, colon, and rectum. Muscles in the walls help move food along, while the lining absorbs nutrients and water, supporting overall health.
