Anatomy of Nerves

Nerves are bundles of specialized fibers that transmit signals between the brain, spinal cord, and other parts of the body. They consist of nerve fibers called axons, which are surrounded by protective layers, including myelin sheaths that speed up signal transmission. Nerves also contain blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients. Structurally, they have three main parts: the core fibers (axons), surrounding connective tissue layers (endoneurium, perineurium, epineurium), and blood supply. This organized structure allows nerves to efficiently carry sensory information from the body to the brain and motor commands from the brain to muscles.
