Anaerobic respiration in humans
Anaerobic respiration in humans occurs when oxygen is scarce, and cells need quick energy. Instead of using oxygen to produce energy from food, muscles break down glucose into a less efficient form called lactic acid. This process provides rapid energy but can cause muscle fatigue and soreness. Once oxygen is available again, the body clears the lactic acid and restores normal function. Anaerobic respiration is a temporary solution for short-term energy needs, such as intense exercise, but it’s less efficient than the regular oxygen-dependent process.
