Amniotic membrane
The amniotic membrane is the thin, transparent tissue that surrounds and protects a developing baby inside the womb. It is part of the amniotic sac, filled with amniotic fluid, which cushions the baby and keeps a stable environment for growth. This membrane contains proteins and growth factors that promote healing and reduce inflammation. In medicine, it’s often used as a biological bandage or graft to help repair tissues, such as burns, eye injuries, or wounds, due to its natural healing properties and ability to reduce scarring. It is typically donated from healthy pregnancies and processed for medical use.
