Ammodramus bairdii

Ammodramus bairdii, commonly known as Baird's Sparrow, is a small grassland bird native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It inhabits dry, open prairies with tall grasses and sparse shrubs. Baird's Sparrow is known for its elusive nature and subtle, grey-brown plumage that provides excellent camouflage. It feeds primarily on seeds and insects, and during the breeding season, males sing to attract females. Due to habitat loss from agriculture and development, Baird’s Sparrow is considered vulnerable, highlighting the importance of preserving its prairie ecosystems.
