American Women's Suffrage Association
The American Women's Suffrage Association (AWSA), founded in 1869 by leaders like Lucy Stone and Henry Ward Beecher, was a key organization advocating for women's right to vote. It aimed to achieve full suffrage through a state-by-state approach, focusing on promoting voting rights for women in individual states rather than seeking a federal amendment. AWSA emphasized unity among women across different social and political backgrounds and worked tirelessly through rallies, lobbying, and education to change public opinion. In 1890, it merged with another suffrage group to form the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), strengthening the movement for women's voting rights.
