American West expansion
The American West expansion, often called Manifest Destiny, was a 19th-century belief that the U.S. was destined to expand westward across the North American continent. Motivated by economic opportunities, land availability, and a sense of national purpose, Americans moved west, establishing new settlements and territories. This process involved significant challenges, including conflicts with Native American tribes, negotiations, and sometimes violence. The expansion led to new states, increased resources, and territorial growth, shaping the nation’s physical and cultural landscape, but also raised issues regarding land rights and displacement of indigenous peoples.
