American Viticultural Area

An American Viticultural Area (AVA) is a designated wine-growing region in the United States recognized by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). It defines specific geographical boundaries with unique climate, soil, and terrain characteristics that influence the flavor and quality of grapes produced there. Winemakers can use an AVA name on their labels if at least 85% of the grapes come from that region, helping consumers identify and choose wines based on their origin and terroir. AVAs help highlight regional diversity and connect wines to their unique landscapes.
