American Polio Association
The American Polio Association was a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating poliomyelitis, commonly known as polio. It focused on supporting vaccination efforts, raising public awareness, and funding research to prevent the disease. Polio is a contagious virus that can cause paralysis and even death. The association played a significant role during the mid-20th century in promoting widespread immunization, which contributed to the near-global eradication of polio today. Although it is no longer active under that name, its work helped lead to the development of effective vaccines that nearly eliminated the disease worldwide.
