American Mutoscope and Biograph Company
The American Mutoscope and Biograph Company was an early American film studio founded in 1895. It produced some of the first motion pictures, pioneering techniques in filmmaking and film distribution. The company initially created the Mutoscope, an early device for viewing moving images, before establishing a film production division called Biograph. Biograph was known for producing short silent films and helping to develop the industry’s foundations, including early work by influential filmmakers like D.W. Griffith. By the early 20th century, it played a significant role in shaping American cinema, eventually evolving into what became known as the Biograph Company and influencing the growth of the film industry.
