American Lutheranism

American Lutheranism is a Christian tradition rooted in the teachings of Martin Luther, emphasizing salvation through faith, the authority of Scripture, and the importance of grace. In the U.S., it encompasses diverse denominations, such as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS), which differ in theology and practices. Generally, it combines a focus on personal faith, community worship, and social justice, reflecting American religious diversity. Despite differences, Lutherans share core beliefs in Christ’s role as Savior and the importance of scripture and sacraments.
