American Communications Association
The American Communications Association (ACA) was a labor union established in 1938 to represent African American workers in the communications industry, including telephone, telegraph, and airline employees. It aimed to advocate for fair wages, improved working conditions, and civil rights, addressing the racial discrimination prevalent in employment practices of the time. The ACA sought to empower Black workers through collective bargaining and social activism, contributing to broader efforts for racial equality in the workplace. Although it eventually merged with other unions, its legacy lies in advancing labor rights and racial justice for African American professionals in communications.
