American Bullfrog

The American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) is a large freshwater frog native to North America. Recognizable by its sizeable body, strong legs, and deep, resonant calls, it typically measures 3.5 to 8 inches long. Adult bullfrogs have green or brown skin with darker markings and a prominent ridged eardrum called the tympanum. They thrive in ponds, lakes, and wetlands, where they hunt insects, small fish, and other aquatic creatures. Known for their loud, booming croaks, they play important roles in their ecosystems but can become invasive outside their native range, impacting local wildlife.
