Amendment Process
The amendment process allows the U.S. Constitution to be revised or added to, ensuring it can adapt over time. To change the Constitution, proposed amendments must be approved through a two-step process: first, either two-thirds of both Houses of Congress or a national convention called by two-thirds of state legislatures propose the change; second, three-fourths of the states must ratify the amendment, either through their legislatures or special conventions. This process ensures that amendments reflect widespread national consensus, balancing flexibility with stability.
