Amboise Conspiracy

The Amboise Conspiracy was a political plot in 1560 in France aimed at overthrowing the powerful Catholic family, the Guises, who were influential figures in the French court. Primarily led by Protestant nobles, the conspirators sought to seize control of the king, Charles IX, and establish Protestant rule amid rising tensions between Catholics and Protestants during the Wars of Religion. The plot was discovered, leading to the arrest and execution of many conspirators. The failure of the Amboise Conspiracy deepened religious divisions and intensified the conflict between the factions in France.
