Ambedkarite Buddhists
Ambedkarite Buddhists are followers of Buddhism inspired by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, an Indian social reformer and architect of India's constitution. He converted from Hinduism to Buddhism in 1956 to oppose caste discrimination and promote equality. Ambedkarite Buddhists see Buddhism as a path to social justice, dignity, and human rights, especially for marginalized groups like Dalits. They emphasize the teachings of Buddha on compassion, justice, and self-awareness, often combining religious practice with activism for social change in India and beyond.
