Amakusa Shiro (Shiro Tokisada)

Amakusa Shiro, also known as Shiro Tokisada, was a young Christian leader in 17th-century Japan who led the Shimabara Rebellion (1637-1638) against oppressive government policies that persecuted Christians. Despite his youth, he became a symbol of resistance, rallying peasants and ronin (masterless samurai) to fight for religious freedom. The uprising was ultimately suppressed, and Shiro Shiro was captured and executed, but he remains a notable figure in Japanese history for his role in defending Christian faith and challenging authoritarian rule during a time of repression.
