Alumina Refining

Alumina refining is the process of extracting pure aluminum oxide (alumina) from bauxite ore. It involves crushing bauxite, then using the Bayer process, where the ore is mixed with a hot solution of sodium hydroxide. This dissolves the alumina, which is then separated from the remaining residues. The solution is cooled, and alumina crystals are filtered out and washed. Finally, the alumina is heated to high temperatures to remove impurities. This refined alumina serves as the primary raw material for producing aluminum metal through subsequent smelting processes.
