Altar of Zeus

The Altar of Zeus was a massive ancient Greek structure dedicated to the god Zeus, located in the city of Pergamon (modern-day Turkey). Built around 180 BCE, it served as a religious and cultural center, known for its impressive marble architecture and elaborate frieze depicting mythological battles, especially the Gigantomachy (fight between gods and giants). The altar was both a place for worship and a symbol of Pergamon’s power. Its most famous features include its grand staircase and detailed sculptural reliefs, which are now housed in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.
