Alpha-1 antagonists
Alpha-1 antagonists are medications that block alpha-1 receptors in blood vessels, causing the muscles to relax. This relaxation widens the arteries, reducing blood pressure and easing symptoms of conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). By preventing norepinephrine from activating these receptors, alpha-1 antagonists help improve blood flow and decrease resistance in the vascular system. They are commonly used to treat high blood pressure and urinary issues associated with prostate enlargement.
