Alpenglow (phenomenon)

Alpenglow is a natural optical phenomenon seen as a reddish or pinkish glow on mountains or peaks just after sunset or before sunrise. It occurs when the sun is below the horizon, and its light is filtered through the Earth's atmosphere, scattering shorter blue and green wavelengths and allowing longer red and orange wavelengths to dominate. This indirect sunlight illuminates the mountains, creating a warm, glowing effect. Alpenglow is most visible on snow-capped peaks or rocky summits and can last from a few minutes up to an hour, enhancing the beauty of mountainous landscapes.
