Allport's Contact Hypothesis

Allport’s Contact Hypothesis suggests that positive interactions between different groups can reduce prejudice and foster understanding. When diverse groups meet regularly under equal status, with common goals, cooperation, and support from authorities, stereotypes and biases tend to decrease. These meaningful contacts help individuals see others as individuals rather than as members of a group, promoting acceptance and reducing hostility. Essentially, the hypothesis emphasizes that peaceful, respectful, and cooperative relationships are key to overcoming prejudice and building social harmony.
