Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant
An allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant is a medical procedure where a patient receives healthy blood-forming stem cells from a compatible donor. These stem cells help replace the patient's damaged or diseased bone marrow, which is responsible for producing blood cells. The transplant can treat conditions like leukemia, lymphoma, or certain blood disorders. To prepare, the patient undergoes chemotherapy or radiation to eliminate unhealthy cells. The donor cells are then infused into the patient's bloodstream, where they travel to the bone marrow and begin producing healthy blood cells, helping restore normal blood function.
