Alligator Caiman

Alligator Caimans are medium-sized freshwater crocodilians native to Central and South America. They feature a broad, rounded snout similar to an alligator’s, and have dark, armored skin with bony plates called osteoderms. These semi-aquatic reptiles prefer rivers, lakes, and swamps, where they hunt fish, birds, and small mammals. They are excellent swimmers, able to stay submerged for long periods, and use their strong jaws to capture prey. Typically, they grow up to 6 to 10 feet, and are vital components of their ecosystems, playing roles in controlling fish populations and maintaining healthy aquatic environments.
