Allied occupation of Austria

After World War II, Austria was divided into zones controlled by the Allied powers—the United States, Soviet Union, United Kingdom, and France—similar to Germany. The occupation aimed to dismantle Nazi influence, rebuild the country, and establish a peaceful, independent Austria. Over time, these zones were gradually merged, leading to Austria's re-establishment as a neutral nation in 1955 with the signing of the Austrian State Treaty. The occupation lasted about a decade, ensuring Austria's sovereignty while maintaining oversight to promote stability and denazification.
