Alirocumab
Alirocumab is a medication used to lower levels of LDL cholesterol, often called "bad" cholesterol, in the blood. It is a type of biologic drug called a PCSK9 inhibitor that works by blocking a protein, PCSK9, which decreases the liver's ability to remove LDL cholesterol from the blood. By doing so, alirocumab helps reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, especially in people who have high cholesterol despite other treatments or have certain genetic conditions. It is administered through injections, typically every two to four weeks.
