Alienation in Sociology
Alienation in sociology refers to the feeling of disconnect or separation individuals experience from their work, society, or themselves. It occurs when people feel their labor is meaningless, they lack control over their life choices, or their identity is distanced from their work and community. This sense of estrangement can lead to feelings of powerlessness, isolation, and dissatisfaction. Alienation often arises in industrial or capitalist systems where individuals may feel their contributions are undervalued or exploited, diminishing their sense of purpose and connection to the broader social fabric.
